Frequently asked questions
Answers to the most common questions about investment taxation in Slovakia
Do I have to pay tax on dividends from foreign stocks?
Yes. Dividends from foreign stocks are taxable income in Slovakia under § 8 of the Income Tax Act. The tax rate is 7% for dividends from EU/EEA countries and 35% for other countries (e.g. USA).
How are stock and ETF sales taxed?
Income from the sale of securities is taxable under § 8 of the ITA. The tax base is the difference between the sale price and the acquisition price, converted to EUR using the ECB rate on the date of the transaction. Taxify handles this automatically.
Which exchange rate should I use for foreign currency conversion?
Under § 31 of the Income Tax Act, you must use the ECB reference rate (published by NBS) valid on the date of the income or expense. Taxify fetches the correct rate automatically for every transaction.
Does Taxify work with brokers other than IBKR?
Interactive Brokers import is currently fully available. XTB and Binance import are in active development and coming soon. Additional brokers (DEGIRO, Revolut, Trading 212) are planned for later.
Is my financial data safe?
Yes. Your data is stored encrypted on servers within the EU. We do not sell or share your financial data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Does Taxify replace a tax advisor?
No. Taxify is a tool that helps you calculate your investment tax liability and prepare supporting documents. We do not take responsibility for the correctness of your tax return – for complex cases, we recommend consulting a qualified tax advisor.
